We're fortunate that as a single household team, the lockdown hasn't really hampered us. but I can't imagine how hard it is for teams from different households trying to collaborate, so it was a sensible decision by the organisers.
However, for us, the change of date gave us mixed emotions. Whilst the extra development time is somewhat of a relief, I was surprised that the initial reaction was one of deflation.
I guess it's because the excitement was starting to build as the deadline drew nearer and nearer. We were getting so close that we were counting the days. There is still a lot to do but each weekend we could see progress being made - so when we saw the deadline was extended to July, it kind of took that edge away.
Still - I'm sure that feeling will soon pass as we realise how much effort is still required. We really only have two (well one and a half) challenges completed, and still need to do the final decorations (yesterday we had a family meeting to decide on eye colours!).
As a team that builds in the garden, we're reliant on good weather - hopefully April and May will be a lot warmer than February. We're also planning on doing the obstacle course in the garden - so again, this change in month will make that easier - at the moment the obstacles are just ideas on a whiteboard and need creating.
And another plus - we'll be able to attend more of this weekend's Pi Wars virtual conference without worrying so much about actual robot building.
Hmm - the more I'm writing this blog entry, the more I'm liking it.
Roll on July!
